Dalia Rubin creates works that, regardless of whether the artist is painting abstractly or figuratively, resonate with the viewer’s primordial sense of being.  Her shapes are organic, growing out of the canvas in the most natural and fluid manner.  It is as if the lines intrinsically curl into the shapes they’re the supposed to be—the shapes that appeal to one’s soul.

Even when Rubin’s subject matter is abstract, she calls to mind tangible objects.  Perpendicular rows of green lines resemble bamboo stalks.  Small circles of grey become mounds of pebbles.  White centripetal forms could be either flowers or a conch shell.  Rubin’s paintings are artful renditions of the natural world. Objects labeled “peacock” or “pod” are as much studies of shapes as they are of physical entities.

Rubin’s use of color is anything but methodical, though.  Her palette is emotional and full of energy.  She favors lush greens in lime and forest, as well as sparkling ceruleans; while golden yellows and ruby reds add warmth to her works.  She mottles the paint so it has a feather-light feel.

Full of robust shapes and colors that rejuvenate the spirit, Rubin’s paintings are the essence of joie de vivre.  The artist was born in Israel in 1959.
